| - We go here often, since we try to eat as organic as possible and they have a nice variety.
I am giving this place 5 stars not because I think it is absolutely perfect, but I do like a lot of things about it. The location is extremely convenient via subway, especially with the new entrance to the mall (took a while eh? But it was worth it!) and the space is nice and tidy.
I think overall the prices aren't as bad as they may seems. Granted there are a few things whose price is outrageous, but that happens almost everywhere (tip: just skip those things), however the quality overall is quite good/high.
They have some nice Beretta farms assortment (organic meat), most produce is organic and the variety and quality is quite nice. I wish they carried more local produce, can't say if it's a choice or not, but I feel like some things that could be more local, come from the US instead. When there is a choice I go with the local/Canadian items.
What I love:
- the organic+fair trade produce (eggplants and zucchini, bananas etc.), I truly appreciate fair trade and always buy this produce here as I like to support it.
- the paninis: pretty yummy and well stuffed with high quality cold cuts, the price is fair imo.
- the bread: I wish it was completely organic not just the flour. That said there is a nice variety and it's pretty good. I also like that is not pre-cut (unless you ask them too) as pre-cut slices are always so thick!
- they carry some items that are hard to find in other places: organic ladyfinger cookies (tiramisu' anyone?) organic ketchup in glass bottles among other things.
- the freshly roasted coffee beans (bulk) that make my place smell nice for days.
- they carry quite a few organic cheeses, I expecially love the Baluchon and the edelflower one (they aren't always available though, but usually come back after a while) also the cheddar(s) and gruyere are lovely!
- they carry most organic brands I love and are extremely well-stocked on organic varieties from mostly the "organic heroes" brands (https://www.cornucopia.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/prop37-poster3.jpeg), rather than the junk-food-producers organic-sub-brands.
- outside the produce the support for local items/food is pretty strong: from breads, to fridge items, pastries, flours, honey etc. and that is pretty nice since I can easily stock on local organics!
One final word goes to the staff which is quite great! They carried the "our staff is our special ingredient" (or something similar) for a while and I thought that was fitting. They are always extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable (as far as my experience goes). To me it feels like they are quite well trained and that is certainly a plus that adds to the overall experience (especially when you actually need help!).
