| - I first went to Lotus of Siam sometime last year, and didn't return until sometime last month. I loved the food the first time around, it's just that my friends and I have been trying to go to all the restaurants we discover on Yelp! When I ate there last year, it was before the restaurant had been remodeled. It was a small space for such a popular restaurant, and reservations seemed to be the way to go. Now that should have changed with the recent remodel, which added more dining space, a bar and large wine selection.
All of the dishes I've had here have been delicious. I could live off of the pad thai and crab fried rice. (Funny story about the crab fried rice: during our first visit we were trying to order fried rice, but with chicken or shrimp, something that wasn't crab. Our pushy waitress told us, "No, you want the crab fried rice." After she repeatedly insisted we get that, we gave in; we were not disappointed. We DID want the crab fried rice, we just didn't know it yet!) I can't comment as to what other dishes I've had there, as I'm not very familiar with thai food. The only other thai restaurants I have under my belt are Archi's Thai Kitchen and Thai Spice (where I always get the orange chicken...).
As you can probably tell by most of the reviews, the food ranges from good to outstanding. I'll let you read everyone elses reviews since, like I said, I'm not well versed when it comes to thai. However, the one thing I do feel I need to talk about is the service. It is absolutely great that the dining space has been expanded, allowing more tables for guests to be seated at. What I don't like is that the waiters/waitresses did not appear to be assigned to a specific area or set of tables. There were a lot of employees working during the Friday night I went there, many of whom served my table at one point or another. I don't think we had the same server visit our table twice that night, which made it annoying when trying to flag someone down. I can't count the number of times I saw a server with a tray of food standing around looking lost and confused, wondering which table the order belonged to. Trying to get more water, order more dishes, order dessert, or get the check was a trial in patience.
Does the quality of the food outweigh my bad experience with the service? Yes, it does. But when i recommend this place to friends, the recommendation will always be accompanied by a footnote to be prepared to do a lot of sitting and waiting.
