After being here a few times 5Church's offerings continue to leave me unimpressed. How disappointing. Granted this latest time was during the clusterfuck that is restaurant week. Walking in we were greeted and promptly seated which was a nice surprise as we were a bit early for our reservation!
For this visit during restaurant week I started with an asian flair and went for the pork belly bun. It's alright, very big, very filling, the coleslaw helped balance out the richness of that pork belly but nothing really shone through. I think the pork belly was kind of bland, I'm not sure how but I can't even remember it. One of my poor dining companions ordered the split pea soup though and it was unfortunately more water than pea it seemed.
Moving on to the entrees we had a wasabi crusted salmon, and hangar steak. At no point during the order did our waitress ask how we would like either to be cooked. Maybe she was frazzled. I usually like my salmon to be rare, but this salmon was quite on the medium well side which while still palatable was not pleasant with the panko crust on top that somehow actually got softer instead of crispy in the oven. I scraped all that mess off.
Dessert was a super sweet candy bar. I took only a few bites before being overwhelmed and called it a day.
I think next time I come here (which might be a very very long time) I will definitely skip restaurant week's menu. It was tedious and a chore to eat here, the whole point of eating out is to skip the chores!
