  • On previous visits to Toronto, the Delta Chelsea was always our top choice for locations to stay. We have boarded at Delta Chelsea throughout the years (my hubby actually proposed there). Our most recent visit was on New Years and unfortunately it wasn't as pleasant as we would have preferred. In lieu of a whole dissertation, I'll list some pros and cons. PRO's: -excellent location -reasonable room rate -clean and reliable -solid staff -great amenities minus Internet -parking underground -restaurant & bar located in hotel -newly remodeled rooms available CON's: -recent room rate increase -no wireless Internet (it's 2012, seriously?) -hidden taxes and fees on rate -no discounted parking for guests In previous years, we have encountered long lines on New Years. This year we waited no more than fifteen minutes in line and were rather surprised. A few things to keep in mind... If you are a person or group who prefers to pay in cash, prepare to pay the room rate plus a security deposit equal to the rate at check-in. In addition to this, if you park below, the hotel now charges something around $27 for parking in addition to taxes and other fees. For our $185 room we ended up dishing out something like $500.00 including the security deposit which we did get about $260 back (I'm still confused about how that added up). If we had known this, we would have prepared accordingly. Avoid a headache and PAY BY CREDIT CARD, if you do this the security deposit is only $50 on a credit card. The icing on the cake, even if you pay in US currency, the hotel will only return your deposit in Canadian and they will NOT exchange your money. This resulted in losing even more money when we had to exchange. Unfortunately this oversight really put a dent in our plans to celebrate our holiday/anniversary together. In reference to comments left by other yelpers... Internet is approximately $14 and not wireless in the rooms. Free WiFi can be accessed in the main lobby and the second floor lobby only. Also I RECOMMEND using AAA discount and you can basically upgrade to the newer rooms with the flat screens for the same price as the older.
