The Fox and Fiddle is in an awkward location downtown. It's a two-storey pub complex with two main bars on each floor, multiple TVs showing sports (as you'd imagine) and a full run of taps larger than most pubs in Toronto. What makes it awkward is that it's found at the base of John Street just past all of the hip and chic restaurants and nightclubs and stands out a bit because of it. I guess the saving grace is that it finds itself across the street from Hooters (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/hooters-restaurant-toronto) if that can act as a bit of a transition.
It looks and feels like a British Pub and has a decent downstairs patio somewhat but not quite entirely guarded from the bustle of John Street. The upstairs patio is a patio but more often than not, used as a smoking area. The pub runs a series of specials every night of the week with the pinnacle being the Sunday night that offers not only live comedy at 10:00pm every Sunday night (for the insomniacs, students, and unemployable among us) but also $10 pitchers of domestic draft and half-price wings. The wings are battered and if you enjoy the spicier side of life, you'll find the suicide sauce is not just hot but actually tasty. I'm glad to see the kitchen opted for flavour over fire. If you want to start your work week in a deficit situation, you could think of worse options.
