| - I met a couple of my AOB buddies for lunch here. This joint is really close to my house and I frequent Lee Lee market plus meet buds for coffee at the Micky D's which is practically next door. We got there a little after 1 on a Friday. We were the only ones there. Now, when you talk about Chinese or Asian restaurants in general, one of the "I'm freakin out" moments is when you walk in and you're the only one(s) there. Immediately I confer with my comrades and we decide to hang out. "What's the worse thing that could happen", T says. "You've had food poisoning before, it didn't kill ya". Geeez.
The 3 of us grabbed a booth and checked out the menu. Pretty straight forward. The cool thing is you see some of the standard Chinese fare but you get to choose the type of noodle that's in it. There are 5 different sizes of noodles which are all hand pulled by the noodle maker right behind the glass window. So, if you have kids, bring them here. They can watch the guy making the noodles they're about to eat while you explain that REAL food doesn't come out of a box. But I digress. My one disappointment at this point is that there was no Rice Noodle. My favorite.
T ordered the Pan Fried Dumplings (8) $6.35. You can also get them steamed. Whoa. This is a meal in itself. The dough wrapper, lightly fried around the beef filling was yummy. We each had 2 and were already getting full.
I ordered the Spring Rolls (2) for $3.25. These were ok. Nothing special. I would have preferred a lot more vegetable stuffing. I would not recommend these.
Because T, S & I were yapping away and not paying attention to anything but the noodle maker, we didn't realize that we pretty much ordered the same thing. I ordered the Beef With Stir-Fried Narrow Flat Noodles ($8.65). T ordered the Beef With Stir-Fried Shave Noodles In Xo Spicy Sauce ($8.65). So aside from the XO spicy sauce and the size of the noodle, we basically got the same dish. Oooops. With so many yummy things on the menu, this was a major goof on our part. S didn't order anything else which is a good thing because the portion size is plentiful.
Both dishes had plenty of sliced beef, the sauces were quite good and of course the noodles were amazing. S & I devoured the non spicy dish. Be prepared, the narrow flat noodles are VERY long. Which is a good thing because that represents long life and all, but it does make it hard to move from the serving plate to your plate. Plus, the noodles stuck together which made them more of a clump then individual strands. I also helped T with the XO spicy one. This dish was not as spicy as I thought it would be. T was sweating pretty good though and for someone who's family is from Myanmar plus he eats spicy food all the time, I chuckled just a little. This dish was made with shave noodles. These were much easier to move from the serving plate to my plate so yippee there and it was really tasty. Winner winner hand made noodle dinner.
I would say that for an empty restaurant, the service was slow. Plus, the waiter brought out my entree first and after a very long pause the two apps, and then finally the other entree. Strange way for the kitchen to put out the dishes. I'll chalk it up to a cook that was maybe woken up from a nap when we walked in. Sorry. The other thing I didn't really like was that the noodles were piled on top of the veggies and sauce. This made it hard to really get the full flavor and texture with each bite until we ate enough of the noodles so we could actually get to some of the veggies. Strange way to present the food.
Good food, good portion size, fair prices, cool to watch the noodles being made, friendly staff, slow, out of order service, sticky noodles, upside down presentation. 3 Stars
