| - Saturday afternoon, pretty weather, 1,000,000 shoppers at the West Side Market. 15 minutes to find parking was a bit frustrating, but the crowd inside is mostly congenial, and the waiting time at individual vendors was not long. Unless, of course, you wanted a gyro at Steve's or falafels at Maha's. . . . My missing 5th star is due to a situation that occurs from time to time at certain produce vendors. They display perfect specimens, but hand you a bag filled with inferior product from behind the high counter. I even commented today on the beautiful freshness of the snow peas, but the proprietor was unwilling to disturb his display and I ended up with a pound of limp, blemished veggies. I should have raised a fuss, but the crowd was pressing and the pea pods were not expensive, so I walked away unsatisfied and a bit angry. I hope I remember not to buy his produce again. And I hope to take my backbone along next time!
