  • What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? Please bear that in mind before your judge. Yes, I stayed at a hotel owned by someone who I think it's safe to say I didn't vote for in 2016. Why did I give my hard-earned money to He Who Must Not Be Named? Because despite his antics (both in the White House and on Twitter) the guy gives damn good hotel; I've stayed here several times before, and have never regretted the experience. What brought me here the first time was the fact that this uber-luxury hotel has no casino, and doesn't allow smoking. While it's on the Strip (just barely) it's still decidedly off the beaten path. That said, it's walking distance to both the Wynn and the Fashion Show Mall; the latter provides lots of shopping options, as well as a good number of places to eat and drink. Tip: The Trump provides a complimentary shuttle to Caesar's; there are also enough Uber drivers out and about that all you need to do is request a ride using their app two or three times and it's better than even money that you'll actually get picked up before your driver cancels ;-) The check-in staff is very attentive and really gets the job done right. I called ahead to request an early check-in, and while they didn't guarantee it, they made it happen quickly and painlessly, even though I arrived at 11am on a Friday. The rooms are clean, really large and well appointed; there's lots of room to unpack (if such things float your boat) and the bathroom is massive! In my double-queen room, there was both a hot tub and an extra shower. There's also a kitchenette in the regular rooms, and a full kitchen in the suites. As my only excuse for coming to Vegas this time out was R&R, I found time to use both the gym and the pool. The former is very nicely equipped and well maintained; the latter isn't as big as some hotel pools I've seen, but the lounge chairs are comfortable, you don't have to mortgage your soul to get extra towels, and the curb service is excellent. What more could you ask for? About the only down side of the pool area at the Trump is it tends to get VERY windy; makes it difficult to read anything that's not electronic. To summarize: Leave your politics at the door, and you won't be sorry about staying at the Trump. It can be loads of fun to gamble at the casinos on the Strip when you feel so inclined, but when you're tired and ready to call it a night, it sure is nice to come to a place that doesn't force you to spend 20 minutes breathing 2nd hand spoke while you wind your way through a casino to get to the room elevators.
