| - So I had to return to this ER on 1/8/17 as my kidney stone still had not passed. What an experience. I will NEVER come back here again. I was put in a strange room this time, no door, no tv.
The ER doctor comes in says I have an infection and I should be admitted so I can see a urologist in the morning for surgery. I told the doctor I would like to try and not stay if possible because of the cost, especially if its just for pain observation. The Dr said he strongly recommended I stay, I told him once we get the CT back to verify the stone was still there, I would have a decision. He got a bit snarky saying he didn't understand why I came in if I'm not going to be admitted. I had a long talk with my sister who is a RN and decided I would stay.
The Dr. comes back says yes the stone is still there and they are going to release me with antibiotics. Now I'm confused. He just pushed me to stay. I told him I decided to follow his first instruction and get admitted for pain observation. He rolls his eyes at me and lets out a big sigh. Are you kidding me?? Now the nurse in the ER was fantastic - but this Dr was ridiculous.
So I get admitted and the RN and CNA go through everything, it's about 9:30/10 pm now. They leave the room. My husband left a couple hours later, still no one has been back in to check on me. At 1:30am I use the call button that I am in terrible pain, 2 AM they bring in the pain meds. That's 4 hours no one came to look in on me (and the tv in the room is all static - hard to see anything). The next shift changes in the morning. The new RN had not so great bedside manner but the CNA was still great and at 10:30 am fixes the TV for me. The morning doctor, very nice. I keep getting told they have contacted the urologist and just waiting for him to get in. Finally someone from their office comes to talk to me at 2pm and they said surgery is at 5pm to remove the stone and place a stent. Surgery went fine.
Here is the kicker and worst part. My insurance company (BCBS) contacts me Wednesday (I was released Monday night) and says the hospital did not contact them within the 48 hours of admitting me as they usually do and stated on paperwork that I was admitted at my request but it wasn't necessary. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! They pushed me to do it!! Now my insurance company will only cover 50% instead of 90% of costs and its a $2000 pre-certification penalty. Apparently on the back of everyone's insurance cards, very small says to contact your insurance company within 48 hours of an emergency visit. Normally a hospital will do that for you (which this one said they were contacting my insurance company) but it is the patients responsibility. The hospital didn't do it until 3 days after, now I'm in this situation.
I also tried talking to the billing department who said billing was changed from a observation patient visit to an in-patient visit which is more expensive and they couldn't tell me why they changed it. I am under so much stress and now am going to pay thousands - because of this hospital. STAY AWAY. Go anywhere but here. Please save yourself from what I am going through.
