| - My friend and I were staying at Mandalay Bay over the weekend and treated ourselves to a little girls spa time. I've had massages and facials before but this was my first "Spa" experience and I was very excited. After we checked in we were shown our lockers and I had a feeling the robe in the locker would be to small, and it was. When I asked an attendant for a larger size, she politely got one for me but that too was too small. I went up to the front of the women's spa area to ask for another robe. The attendant found something, then preceded to make me aware this was the largest they have, and the size number. It didn't and really, all the robes were the same size. I was shocked they didn't have a larger size. I'm not a big woman and there were larger women in the spa then me. I asked about a mens robe but she said this is what the men get too. It was really upsetting. I asked if there was someone else to speak to and she called for a manager that had to come from another spa on the property. At that point I was in tears standing their waiting for the manager, because had I sat down I would have flashed everyone. I was ready to walk out. I mean I was spending a lot of money in this spa that's supposed to be one of the best and they don't have robes that fit someone larger than a size 10. I was ready to cancel my treatments all together... it was like the movie MEAN GIRLS and "you can't sit with us". The first attendant saw me standing there crying and asked if she could help. She went in the back and found me a plush robe that fit.
I then found my friend and a few minutes later Katherine, the manager, came to us. She said she heard everything was taken care of and I said no. I was made to feel horrible and that I didn't belong in their spa. She let me know on her way over she spoke to laundry about the robes and were told it was the largest size AND that the robes shrink after washing. You could tell these robes had been worn so many times that they were stretched to as far as they could and anyone that's ever done laundry before could clearly see these were not shrinking. It just felt like excuse after excuse. She offered us a small discount on our services and to come to her spa the following day so our treatments would be on them to we'd have a better experience. She would also leave her contact number in case we had any problems.
Honestly, this completely ruined my time at the spa. I was told by one of the attendants that worked on me that the Big Beautiful Women convention happens at Mandalay Bay and confirmed the way I had been treated shouldn't have happened.
After our treatments we went to the front where the discount had been applied but she neglected to leave her information for us for the following day. After waiting another 20 minutes while the very sweet girl at the front desk tried to track down Katherine, we returned to our room to get ready for dinner. Katherine did call me back only to let me know there was no complementary treatments for the following day, only to use the spa facilities, which was something we didn't want and were heading back to LA. I don't think she really understood how upsetting this was and how the situation could have been handled better, on her and the attendants parts. In the end she did discount our services.
The one saving grace to the experience was George, my who gave me a great facial. He was so nice and apologetic over the whole experience, more so then Katherine. He really made me feel special and should be praised.
