rev:text	Flat out, we were disappointed on our first dinner at Tao. First, the design of Tao is engaging on a Vegas-scale. Pretty over the top, but in a good way. But what was plain weird was the music. They actually had a DJ during dinner, and he was playing what felt like exactly the wrong kinds of music, like something that could work well in a Hard Rock restaurant. The food was not at all memorable, and mine was far too salty - and it was a noodle dish. It seems they put the most effort into not offending anyone with any of their food. It reminded me of PJ Changs, but a bit more expensive. They call it Fusion. I call it cop-out. Their Tao hot tea blend was very good. This one really got me. I asked for hot bean sauce, a staple at any real Chinese restaurant. They had nothing hot on the table, but was told all they had in the back was Sriracha. I love Sriracha, but in this setting, their own sauces should've lead the way. All we saw was a typical sweet sauce and mustard sauce for dipping; neither were better than average. The last thing I have to mention is the waitstaff. Everyone was nice, but maybe too nice. It started to feel a bit like Disneyland. Our primary waiter (I think there were four assigned to our table) sounded more like a used-car salesman than an informative waiter. And another waiter just started talking with us, picking up a conversation we were having privately at the table. They're trying far too hard. We're not going back. These guys really need to start living up their own hype. It all feels so old-school.
