What a thoroughly underwhelming experience. While the rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff are extremely nice, we expected much more for the price.
First - if you don't have a city view, you will have a view of the ugliest garage in America. No - seriously. It's so ugly it completely set the mood for the rest of our stay, which went downhill from there. This is reason enough to spend the extra $20 per night to stay at one of their competitors. I can't emphasize what a downer this is.
The room didn't even have a fridge in it. When I called down to ask why, they agreed to bring one up - and they did - a clunky old one with dents in it that sat in the middle of our room.
Again - while very lovely people, the valet parking took sometimes 20 minutes. This costs nearly $30/per night and there were a couple times I had to wait 15-20 minutes to get my car. These were game days, but it appears that their solution to busy game days is to expect the guest to wait patiently rather than preparing for the busier time by adequately staffing their valet. I actually felt bad for the valet team.
To add insult-to injury, we didn't receive housekeeping at all during our 2-night stay, despite speaking with the cleaning person about what time we were leaving. When we returned we were scratching our heads. When I went down to request some coffee for the morning and explained our room was never cleaned the (again - very nice) front desk person replied "how many would you like" - not "I'm so sorry - that's unacceptable"
The location is great and the place isn't a dump. If you don't care and need something convenient and don't mind staring at the world's ugliest garage, then you'll be ok with this place. But it isn't anything you couldn't find off a nearby freeway outside the city for much cheaper. If you value amenities this place could step it up a notch or three.
PS: Whatever you have heard about Cleveland and its reputation as a dump is so 40 years ago. The entire city is experiencing a renaissance and I wish this hotel would up its game.
