| - I bought a brand new car two weeks ago and parked it in my secured garage. The next day I took it to Octopus for a quick rinse. The service was fine. They did a good job with the wash. I brought my car back to my garage and everything was okay. The next time I was walking to my car I saw that there was a short but deep scratch on the hood of the car.
I called and then went to Octopus. I talked to two different managers and they both denied any responsibility for the scratch. I told them that obviously I have no way of proving that they did it. I was expecting him to say something like, "Well, we have no way of knowing where this happened, but I'm sorry that this happened, we can return what you paid for the wash (a measly $10), and either offer a touch-up service or refer you to another service." If they really cared about whether they made their customer happy, they could offer to cover half of the touch-up costs or something in that order. But no, the manager was not accommodating at all. I told him that him plainly denying any responsibility of it is not going to make me happy and I'm not going to put a good word for them. He said that I was threatening him to get him to pay for this. I told him that I did not care a bit about $30-$50-$500 it would cost. I wanted to give them a chance to show them that they cared about their customers.
I will never go back to Octopus. Think about it; how can they be held accountable for something like this? If they scratch your car and even if you realize it right when it comes out of the wash, they can claim that it was there all along. So, if you are taking your car to Octopus, know that you are taking a risk (that you wouldn't be taking with most drive-thru auto wash services) and no one is going to be nice or understanding to you about it.
Update:
I contacted the Better Business Bureau with a complaint who contacted the business on my behalf. I just received a response that is a lot ruder and irresponsible than the manager I talked with on site. The business said that I was not a reasonable person, that I was rude and erratic, and that I should be happy that I didn't get arrested for my rude behavior because the business was about the call the police to remove me from their premises. This is how this business treats its customers. You judge.
