I was expecting so much more from this restaurant. With all the praise Michael Mina (as a chef) has received over the years I was ready take a shot at his signature dishes.
It was clear that we had to try his tasting menu and so we did with excitement. In the end, I found the majority of the dishes to be very lacking in flavor combination and flavor itself. It felt like a "play it safe to the palate of average diners kind of meal." Just kind of lacking in excitement all together. I did however find the miso glazed seabass in dashi broth quite excellent. I WILL tip my hat to that dish. On the flip side, the lobster pot pie dish he has been oh so famous enough for was the most underwhelming dish and quite frankly the worst course of the tasting. The rootbeer float cookie dessert was a joke. (But that's just my opinion). The food itself was cooked nicely for the most part with no serious complaints.
Apart from that, the service was excellent and on par with what you would expect from a restaurant of that caliber. Bathrooms were nice too. I think what I remember most from my time at Michael Mina's is how wonderful the hand soap smelled. Everything else, meal included, will probably be forgotten by next week.
