I'm usually a good planner. My only kryptonite is not enough sleep. I barely had any sleep for the past week and realized last night that I needed a cake for today's staff meeting. Slightly panicking, I went on Yelp to research bakeries close by. Matthew's Frangipane review had me curious and in learning that it was steps away from Dupont station, I decided on trying there first. I called their line and found out their summer hours meant they opened at 9am. Perfect! I could be late for work on account of delicious cake, right? I sent a prayer to the cake gods that they would have something for me in the morning.
I was camped outside Frangipane by 8:45am and they opened promptly at 9. I went in and let the salesperson, Janine, know of my dilemma. To my delight, she was extremely accomodating. They have some cakes that are frozen overnight and she offered me two of those. I bought one large lemon poppyseed cake and a similar small cake to fulfill my request.
My co-workers loved the cake and there were many clean paper plates at the end of the meeting. It was light and refreshing without being too sweet. It was definitely worth the money. Most of the managers took the name and address of the bakery. I definitely plan on using them again. I'll just get more sleep before I do.
NOTE: Don't be like me, kids. If you need a custom cake for around 25 people, order 2-3 days in advance.
