I didn't want to give any stars... We lost a 23 yr old family member to pneumonia at this hospital. So many problems.. At one point an ICU nurse forgot to start his pain pump this poor kid had necrotizing pneumonia and was suffering and their response to someone with 2 chest tubes unable to walk was to call security??? It wasn't until I asked for the charge nurse that it was discovered the nurse had forgot to start his meds of course he was screaming in pain. The pulmonologist told him to give up... He had one nurse Naomi who was fully aware that he was suffereing from a pulmonary illness yet poured on perfume before her shift and cared more about flipping her hair around than pt care. I called for a bed change 20 minutes later no one came...I had him changed and fresh linens before they showed up. Came in one morning to find him unresponsive no nurse in sight I came out yelling for help and the first nurse I found had a fit cause I still had my isolation gown on didnt get out of her chair I went to the monitor tech next who said heart looks fine really? Then I found the charge nurse who quickly called a rapid response which led to a code. The only proper care he recieved was from that one charge nurse. The only kindness he saw was from the dietary staff and one CNA (i think she was from Haiti maybe?) i wish i knew her name... I owe her a hug and a thank you. Losing him left a hole that can never be filled.. To you he was just some poor ghetto hispanic kid whom you decided straight away was a drug addict..In reality he was an artist..a poet...a beautiful human being who had type one diabetes raised in foster care who's whole life was filled with abuse and the high and mighty as yourselves always ready to judge never ready to help... I worked in another icu and thats how i came to know him and he became family to me...i always told him I couldn't love you more if you were my very own...shame on your staff for treating people like they are only worth saving if you have the right idea of who they really are. Ive since encounter two familes with similar stories. Shame on you.
