| - I am a seasoned gym go-er. I've been to the YMCA (Markham and Scarborough locations), GoodLife Fitness (Markham, North York, Waterloo locations), Anytime Fitness (Markham location), and other gyms. So believe me when I say that LA Fitness is one of THE WORST gyms I have ever been to.
The ONLY decent individual who works there is Joe. He dealt with my brother and my memberships. The 20-something year old man who works at the front desk during the day is absolutely horrible. He was rude and completely unhelpful on MULTIPLE occasions. He DOES NOT care about ANY of the customers, and doesn't even have the decency to say hello.
I don't care whether equipment is new or old, so long as there is enough of it and a good variety. Considering that the facility is MASSIVE, they have a VERY SMALL AMOUNT of free weights, benches, and cages. They only have two or three sets in each weight, the have a few benches, and they only have ONE cage (with two other traditional squat racks). For most people this amount of equipment would suffice. However, as a seasoned gym go-er, this is pathetic. They have hundreds and maybe thousands of members, so you'd think a gym this size would have a decent amount of equipment for all. They only have one set of boxes for jumping and they are placed in the personal training section of the gym. I was told by the young man at the front desk that they were not to be removed from that area. However, I was also not allowed to work out in that area EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A QUIET SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND NO ONE WAS IN THE PERSONAL TRAINING AREA. So not only do they have a lack of equipment, they ALSO have bull shit policies regarding the use of their facility.
I have so many more things to say about how horrible this gym is, but I know that this post is already ridiculously long.
Having been to a number of other gyms in the past 8 years, I know what gyms SHOULD be like and what they SHOULD NOT be like. I have never experienced THIS MANY issues at any other gym that I have been a member of - and that INCLUDES Anytime Fitness (which is generally a very small facility). The only reason I chose to join LA Fitness was because of its location, as it is close to my home. I have personally found it difficult to be motivated to go to the gym if it is more than 8km from my house. OTHER THAN THAT, I would not remain a member at LA. I haven't even been a member for a month and I already hate the people who work there and the company.
I hope this was helpful to anyone else who knows their way around the gym and was looking to switch to or inquire about LA.
