| - Urban Dog (UD) is God's gift to all dog owners in the Lawrenceville area. It is conveniently located on Butler Street and offers a variety of spa/boarding services. I have been taking my pup there for the past eight months and have been delightfully pleased with all of my experiences. I have recommended UD to at least seven of my canine-loving friends in Pittsburgh and all have been as equally as impressed with it as I.
Just to give some background information, I am the proud mother of a very spirited (and wonderfully charming) Boston terrier puppy, Winston. My little guy needs lots of attention and exercise on a regular basis. He's also very sensitive to human tone and attitude, so I am quite particular as to who babysits him. In any case, after moving to Lawrenceville, I began shopping around for a good doggie daycare and heard about UD from a friend in the neighborhood. Once I gave it a try, I was hooked. Winston absolutely loves it! He plays his heart out while he's there and usually gets a nice bath or spa treatment before he comes home. He goes two times per week and never seems to tire of it.
The UD complex, itself, is quite impressive. There is a ton of space for the pups to run around and play with one another. It also boasts spacious playpens for each different size group of dogs and there is even a special room in which the smallest of pups can romp and roll. Inside these pens you can expect to find doggie toys, beds and blankets to make the daycare experience more comfortable for each dog. Throughout the day, staff members play with the dogs and monitor their activity to ensure there is no fighting. (This particularly makes me feel more comfortable with leaving my handsome boy there. And I can say with a certainty that monitoring DOES happen, as I have observed it myself on several occasions.) Further, I would like to point out that there is NOTHING unsafe about UD. There is a secure metal gate in the front reception area to prevent pups from escaping through the front door. Conveniently, there is ample parking on the street running perpendicular to Butler. There are signs displayed above the counter listing prices for all services offered at UD, so there is no mistake as to how much money will spend on any particular service. (Try the blueberry facial!)
Finally, my favorite thing about UD is the owners, Emil and Sara, who make boarding and daycare a fun experience for my Winston. Not only are they fabulous, but they are also very knowledgeable about dog boarding, grooming, etc. Winston has never come home with so much as a scratch or a limp. They treat Winston like their own pup and he obviously loves them. (This love is evidenced by lots of kisses and tail-wagging upon sight of either Emil or Sara.) They have been very accommodating to all of my boarding/bathing/daycare requests and, trust me, there have been plenty. So, if you find yourself in need of a groomer or a place to board your dog, I highly recommend UD! It's convenient, safe, competitively priced and privately owned.
