Barbershops like this seem to be popping up all over the place. "Old school" style barbershops that give off the vibe that you're stepping back in time. The smell alone will probably evoke memories of getting haircuts as a child. The only thing missing is a group of old men just loitering around, not to get haircuts, but to simply just shoot the breeze for several hours.
I give V's credit for trying to emulate this experience. But let's be realistic here. People who have convinced themselves they're getting a "superior" haircut to what you can get at any other locally owned barbershop are simply being way too naïve. 21 dollars (plus tip) is pretty steep for getting an exact duplicate result of what I can get for almost half the price by going to a local barbershop in a smaller establishment (and yes, they still shave your neck).
Their shave (25 dollars plus tip) is even more overpriced. Once again, people seem to be convinced that there are no other places left that do straight shaves, which is also not true. Although I like the various towels and excessive prep-work involved, I felt it made minimal difference in the quality of the shave. I still can get a better shave at home, so it's strictly worth doing for the fun-factor alone, but nothing else.
I eventually quit going here after a few years. Despite using the same guy every four weeks, I felt my haircuts were inconsistent and didn't want to deal with the awkwardness of going in and asking if I could try another barber.
While I do feel it's worth experiencing at least a couple of times, I maintain my stance that a no-frills locally owned barbershop is still the best way to go.
