I'm not sure if it's because I've been drinking too much commoner bubble tea with premade tapioca which is why I'm used to and prefer chewy tapioca. One Zo makes their own tapioca in-store which is their main selling point and the tapioca machine is facing the front window of the store. They have quite a few different flavors but the one that appealed to me most was the taro one.
I had the taro niu niu with taro tapioca and both the drink and tapioca were made using the bright purple colored taro powder that I am not a big fan of. Their store-made tapioca is softer, so soft that I found it lacked the chewiness I like in my tapioca pearls. Even with 25% sweetness it's still pretty sweet. I'm guessing the taro powder comes with sweetener/sugar premixed into it so it's hard to really control the sweetness.
When I went, there was a promo where you can get a freebie based on where your pinball landed in the One Zo Tapioca pinball game. I thought that was pretty creative but even with a card for free tapioca, I don't think I'd visit again since there's many bubble tea shops in the area and their drinks are priced higher than Chatime or Gong Cha which are in the vicinity.
