| - Went for dim sum with my family again. Some reviewers say "this is the best dim sum restaurant in Phoenix" -- this might be true, but it is nowhere close to the best dim sum I have eaten in my life. People also say the service is bad and I would normally agree, but yesterday, I felt that we received decent service, other than the fact that some of the old ladies pushing the dim sum carts don't speak English and get irritated when you don't speak to them in Cantonese. I think it is their problem is they cannot speak English -- especially in the USA. Food was decent, but not outstanding; lacking in depth of flavor and appropriate seasoning. For instance, pai quat was bland and tough; chow mein was dry and flavorless; wrinkled green beans had too much round onion and not enough garlic in the dish; and the chive dumplings were bland in taste; and the glutinous rice in lotus leaf was flavorless. However, most of the other dumplings were OK as were the bao's. I thought the tripe dishes were flavorful and well seasoned. We also ordered a plate of Chinese roast pork -- I might be wrong here, but it looked like they boiled the pork belly to get it cooked and tender, then roasted it to crisp the skin. I think this is how they did it since it did not look like the normally roast pork you see hanging in the BBQ meat case. The meat part looked pale and rather "whitish". Prices have gone up, and when I did not receive an itemized menu, I couldn't tell if it was totaled correctly. I "think" I could have been charged that phantom service fee too. I am not a big fan of this restaurant, but when my family wants dim sum, this is where we go.
