| - Pancho's Bakery has been my go-to for churros for quite some time now and this entire summer, I've been dying to try their churro cone but I must say that I was quite disappointed. Now, I must add though that my friend and I got here late, when Kensington Market area was already pretty empty.
We get there and there were already some churro cones ready. I did ask if they had just come out and the server said they did. I believe he did just make it seem that way because they were sitting in the basket above the fryer and for Dios knows how long. Well, as delicious as it looked, I would guess that the cones have been sitting there for some time because they were hard and stale. The quality of the ice cream could have been better as well but thankfully, the chocolate and caramel sauces plus the shredded coconut (a rather stingy serving) made up for it.
By the time I got to the actual cone, I chose to not to eat the end as I was afraid to chip a tooth. Yes, it was that hard. Now, I've had a love for churros for well over 2 decades now, so way before it even reached the hype of current days, so I know my churros. Guaranteed that these churros were left sitting out in the open for a couple of hours as no fresh churro would be that tough. My overall rating for the churro cone based is regretfully 2/5.
I may give it another try but I will make sure I ask for a fresh one. I love this place so much that I'm willing to give them the benefit of a doubt that this server was just too lazy to make a fresh batch.
