I was in Pittsburgh for a conference last weekend and decided to stay here rather than the conference hotel because that one (which shall remain nameless) was more expensive and had gotten pretty mixed reviews on Yelp. I found the Doubletree as comfortable as could be.
It's located within walking distance of anything I had to get to during my stay downtown. The bed was perfect, the room was spacious, and the temperature was just about right. Check-in was a breeze, and there was a Yelp check-in offer: a free canister of cookies (they're chocolate chip with walnuts).
The bathroom was the one weird space in the room. The toilet felt like it was made for a munchkin, while the toilet paper was on the opposite wall, where I could have used a go-go-gadget arm to reach it comfortably.
My favorite small pleasure was having English Breakfast tea in the room and a coffee maker that didn't produce water that tasted like coffee. It was replenished each day.
My least favorite thing was that the parking, as far as I could tell, was valet-only. I realized that parking prices would be through the roof ($22 per day on weekdays, $20 on weekends, I think), and that's just comparable for the area. But I'm never a fan of valet parking and its inconvenience.
