I'd like to start with a bit of context. I have lives in North Scottsdale, have been an avid golfer for 27 years, and have played Troon courses ~25-40 times. The 3 guests I brought Friday were all from out of town and naive to Troon North.
I'd like to share with you that Friday's round was unenjoyable, frustrating and fell far short of the expectations associated with the cost of a premier experience. The reason for this, which also led to our round being cut short, was the total failure of the staff to regulate pace of play. We played the front nine in over 2 hours and 40 minutes (a 5.5 hour pace) because we waited on every shot for the 2 slow groups ahead. The course was far from sold out; the 2 groups ahead were simply allowed to play at this pace. Additionally, we never had the opportunity to voice our concerns to the Marshall as he never stopped during our round to ask about the experience or provide updates as to why the delay. Ultimately, we ended up skipping 3 holes just to leapfrog the 2 groups. The course was wide open in front of them; empirically proving the entire delay was due to their painfully slow pace. The group behind us gave up all together and quit after ~12 holes.
Premium-priced golf offerings are abundant in Scottsdale and the experience is what motivates customers to return. After Friday's round, it would be difficult for me to recommend the option to others. However, the email to management has been responded to and handled in the proper manner of a course of this magnitude.
The course is beautiful and is a must see when visiting the Scottsdale Area.
