  • I went to Evoke on Bloor after doing a google search for the "Best Colour Correction in Toronto". After many years of being a home dyed blue/black haired girl, I wanted to go lighter. Having gone from black to blonde before, I know its a precarious and difficult process that should not be tried at home, but can happen with some good success with the right stylist. I called and booked my appointment. Tanya Marie was my colour technician. I explained I wanted red hair. Not super light or bright, I was realistic about the health of my hair and the process this would undertake. She agreed she would be able to get it to match the nice bright red swatch she showed me. 3 1/2 hours and $325.00 later, i had black hair with a slightly red tone that could be seen in the sunlight if you looked closely. In other words, no real difference (except for very frizzy hair). In my 3.5 hours, I watched many other happy clients get what looked like lovely scalp massages and haircuts. I wish I'd had one... wish I'd even had a trim for the amount of money I paid. But c'est la vie. I went home very disappointed and unhappy. So I called the salon back and spoke with Tanya Marie who suggested I come back to allow her to "try again". I came back the next day and spent another 3 hours at Evoke, with still no massage, and no cut, but something somewhat closer to what I had hoped to achieve. I give her kudos for bringing me back to "try again" but for over $300 for hair dye only? I expected much more and the job done right the first time. *update* after all this time... no one from Evoke has ever responded to my review. Further assurance that client satisfaction really isn't very important to this highly overpriced and under-skilled salon.
