My son James is obsessed with the TV show 30 Rock therefore for his birthday when I found out Alec Baldwin was visiting Toronto and speaking at the Tiff building on King Street for the Summer Soiree ON James' birthday I bought four tickets and we drove downtown and endured the hassle of parking which took an hour to drive two blocks to find parking, had dinner on King Street and walked over to the Tiff building. Because we showed up an hour before Baldwin started speaking we got great seats right around the middle of the theater. My sons were very dressed up in nice outfits and they are always very well behaved ---they are world travellers and they know how to act when they're in adult company. We always stay at the best hotels and everybody who knows them knows they're not brats. They are 13 and 14 years old and they were the only children in the audience. Alec Baldwin arrived and started telling various funny stories about his childhood, his life, his acting career, and my kids were very well behaved and responded in kind to each story and laughed at his jokes. We got shushed by an unattractive 50-ish looking spinster type female sitting alone right behind behind my son Tristan while we were laughing at one of his stories. Tristan looked at me and I just shrugged because I didn't want him to worry about it. I didn't think that it was going to be an issue but I was wrong. A few minutes later they showed a clip of Baldwin when he was filming Beetlejuice which is a real gem for my kids because they had forgotten it was Alec Baldwin in this movie they love, and afterwards Baldwin's comment was " I'm watching that clip and trying to remember is that me or my little brother Billy?" I laughed along with everybody else and said quietly to my son " it's true- he does look like Billy there " and then I got shushed once again loudly by this bitch behind me. Meanwhile for the second it took me to say that the audience was still laughing at Baldwin's comment ---she wasnt missing anything by me appreciating the joke. It's obvious from her age demographic she was the perfect age to be the type of person who finds Baldwin really attractive and maybe she was expecting that he would look up into the audience and suddenly fall in love with her even though he's happily married now for the first time in his life. She didn't want me distracting him from her "beauty. " I was about to turn around and tell her "it's obvious you're going to die alone and bitter but it's not my fault so don't take it out on me!" Then I started wondering if she actually was a psycho stalker that he has a restraining order against because he seems to attract his share of stalkers. In total she loudly chastised us six times that night and of course I was furious and wanting to turn around and respond to her but the place was so quiet that it would've caused more drama and attention than I wanted. She was so loud shushing me that I had people from three rows ahead of me turning around to stare at her. Not stare at me because I was talking --- but to stare at her because she was shushing so loudly and telling us that everything we were doing was so distracting. Therefore who is distracting? At one point Tristan after being patient sitting for 90 minutes of just talking wanted to stretch his neck and he laid his hands behind his neck a little bit and she grabbed his hands and pushed them back and said "Stop that!!!!!!! that's very distracting!" He wasn't even saying anything at the time he was just stretching his neck. At that point I really wanted to turn around and give her peace in my mind but I was quite worried that she seemed very mentally unhinged and there was no security whatsoever in the building. I would suggest to Tiff that in future to protect their innocent guests that should instal at the very least for security staff or just staff in general to stand on the stairs at different areas to keep an eye on things. I really wanted to tell her to keep her hands off and never touch my kids again if at least I knew they were staff watching her reaction if she decided to attack me. Keep in mind these tickets are very expensive ---the evening came to $350 and though it wasn't the first time we've been to the Tiff building as we are huge movie fans and weve been to Tim Burton retrospectives etc. this was our first time going to summer soirée and definitely our last unless they can fix security.
