  • We could have bumped our rating to a 4, but certain circumstances brought our rating down to a 3, which is too bad because the food is pretty good. The lemon cream scone was incredible. It isn't super dry like your typical scone and it is full of flavor. Put some of the raspberry jam provided and you're set. The BLTP (the "p" is for red bell pepper) was very tasty. I like how they put it on rye, which adds some additional flavor. Lots of bacon and surprisingly fresh lettuce (though it did keep falling out because they used the very small inside pieces of a head of romaine). The red bell pepper was slightly roasted, but I think that it could have spent another minute or two in the broiler to maximize the flavor. We also had the Works, with eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, and toast. Again, good but not the best. While the food deserves a 4 (although the lemonade had little flavor--not tart or sweet... just tasted like unripe lemon and water), everything else about our experience could have brought our rating down. First of all, it is really inconvenient to go up to the counter and order, especially since the place is so small. Also, although we saw the sign that said that breakfast on the weekends is served until 2, we didn't see the sign (if there was one) that said that ONLY breakfast was served on the weekend. And lastly, although I thought the staff was sweet, the crowd was pretty snobbish. We came with our kids, one of whom is 2 years old and the other being 2 months old, and people seemed to give us the stink-eye when we had to tell our son to sit down or when our daughter cried for a few minutes (for this instance, we were in line ordering, and the place was so cramped we could hardly put her carrier down and soothe her until we sat down). We'll come in again for some take out pastries or a quick snack, but this place is a bit overrated. For a good breakfast/brunch we'll go to Cafe Soleil. Or Crema Cafe. Or Mermaid Cafe. Or Manna Bakery. Or Monty's.
