Due to intrigue alone, I found myself drooling in line over the Christmas break at this wildly popular new donut and biscuit joint in south Charlotte. It would be my first of three visits over two days in search of their elusive Maple Bacon Bar that sold out immediately ahead of me on my first two visits. On Christmas Eve, the line filled both the front, side and rear of the restaurant. Was the wait worth it? No, but the donuts are pretty doggone good, are made fresh continually and come in a plethora of gourmet flavors.
The Maple Bacon Bar is covered in rich maple icing topped with a single thick slice of tasty bacon. It is not as exotic as it sounds but, again, is very good in my opinion. It is also their best seller. The apple fritters are loaded with apples and are a little lighter than the typical deep fried fritters. The Old Fashioned Lemon is my favorite. They are all worth trying but not worth a long wait. I doubt that will be an issue in a couple of months anyway.
