During college I frequented the PaPa J's in downtown Pittsburgh and I was extremely saddened when I heard it had closed.
This was my first trip out to Carnegie to celebrate my father in law's birthday. There were five of us. Immediately upon arrival we were seated (we had made a reservation). Our waiter, Mark, was very attentive. Our waters were always filled and he checked in on us just enough that it wasn't overbearing. He also refilled our bread (which was excellent) and oil/vinegar to dip in quickly upon request. The service was excellent.
I had the bolognese and wedding soup. Both were excellent. Three other guests had chicken parm and penne. My husband had shrimp with thin spaghetti in oil and garlic. The portions were huge and we had leftovers. The only complaint (minor) was the garden salad. Too much lettuce, not enough other toppings, and not enough dressing.
I will definitely return to this location!
