| - Hurray, there's another donut shop in the east end!
Von Doughnuts joins the city's 'gourmet doughnut' scene with their amazingly HUGE treats. Like I mean, these are huge beasts to be putting into your mouth compared to your average chain cafe fare. It's nothing short of amazing.
The unique creative varieties (of both raised and cake types) available differ each day. Many of their doughnuts bear names like the margarita flavoured "One night stand," "Enjoy-mint," "Cap N' Jack" (Captain Crunch bits and Jack Daniels), and yes, "Dill-Dough." Ain't that a mouthful?
We bought many, but I only tried two. They were patient enough to even bring out a fresh batch of crème brulée when I asked. Sliced in half with a custard cream filling stuffed in between and the top garnished wih a burnt sugar shell, it was quite like the actual stuff.
The savoury Dill-Dough has a liberal amount of dill mixed in the cake dough, and topped with a fried dill pickle. Why, does it remind you of something?? Anyways, fans of pickle flavoured potato chips will certainly find this dill-lightful!
Coffee and loose leaf tea are also served here, where you'll get a lot more fun and donuts than you realize. I wonder what 'Boston cream brulée' would be like...
{TTC: a short walk east from Pape subway station... and a long slow walk back after a few donuts.}
