| - BED BUGS!
Despite some things I liked about the place (location, some nice people in the office, good restaurant downstairs), I cannot recommend anyone live here. Bed bugs! There are bed bugs in the building.
I had two outbreaks in the last month and a half that I lived there. My neighbor, who had lived there much long than me, told me he had had them "a couple of times." Frankly, it was a nightmare. I was planning on moving from Las Vegas soon, and I could not afford to move to another place in the city before then. I also really couldn't be sure they wouldn't travel with me. I spent the last month and a half there spreading diatomaceous earth everywhere, vacuuming frequently, and doing laundry several times a week.
The response from the apartment management was kind of strange. On the one hand, they sprayed the room twice with a strong smelling chemical and put traps around the frame. On the other hand, they wanted to do things like fumigate that are not effective against bed bugs. They also stonewalled me when I asked them to reimburse me the cost of mattress covers. They told me they would have given them to me for free if I had asked, but I of course had no way to know that ahead of time.
In the end, I spent a lot of money on mattress covers, diatomaceous earth, and laundry. I even hired a bed bug sniffing dog to go over my possessions before moving them into my new place. To add insult to injury, the corporate office tried to keep a large portion of my deposit by saying that I left the apartment in a dirty state. It was not dirty when I left it. It took over two months to get my deposit back, which still wasn't the full amount.
In the end, it was a miserable experience, and I still freak out any time I get an itchy spot on my body. Don't let my bed bug trauma happen to you.
