  • Man, I wish I had laundry in my building. But I don't, so I get the privilege of trucking my stuff down the street to take my pick of two laundromats. I used to go to the one across the street from Jumbo Coin, simply because it was closer to my house, and then one day all the machines were in use, so I made that giant leap across College, and I'll never look back. The setup is spacious, with a ton of machines (I want to say at least 20 washers) of varying sizes. I've never had to move someone else's stuff, and any time I don't have to touch someone else's underwear makes me very happy. I usually go for the double-load machine, which is $2.50. I believe a quarter gets you 7 minutes in heaven with the dryer. You need to ask the staff at the back counter for change, which is not always as convenient as a change machine, but on the other hand, humans don't reject your bills for being crinkled. Also, this place is pretty spotless for a laundromat, which makes me feel better about the fact that I'm washing my underwear in a public space. The staff are always on the go, mopping, cleaning lint traps, polishing machines, picking up dryer sheets from the floor, moving carts back to their homes. The place feels well taken care of and the machines are well maintained. I believe they also have a drop-off laundry service, but I haven't done that. They play classical music, which feels quite civilized. And they have laundry detergent, dryer sheets and all manner of laundry products for sale, as well as snacks and drinks. There are a number of tables and chairs for sitting at, and also tables for unpacking and folding. It's just an overall pleasant experience. I like to bring a book or my laptop there on a Sunday afternoon and feel productive while my gear is getting so fresh and so clean. The only thing that could make it better is free WiFi, but I can certainly deal with being unplugged for an hour. Jumbo Coin is located on the same street as the Cadbury Factory. In fact, their signage includes an ad for Cadbury. Just follow your nose toward that heady blend of chocolate and dryer sheets, and you'll find a laundromat that is pretty perfect, as far as these things go.
