  • To spare you about 20 pages, I'll avoid listing everything that went wrong, but here's my top 5: 1. I had a reservation but they didn't have any cars available and we had to wait 30 minutes for them to move a car from another location. 2. I reserved a "full size" car and they gave me a Sonata, which is classified as a "mid size" by wikipedia, as well as every single car review site I could find. I normally don't care about this stuff, but it meant that my wheelchair didn't fit. I don't even mind paying the upgrade charge to get a bigger car, but it sucks that they use a non-standard sizing system that's different from what everyone else in the world uses. 3. The odometer on the car said 28k miles but their paperwork said the car had 2.8k miles. 4. When I picked it up, the car had a huge scratch on it that wasn't listed as prior damage. If you're getting a car here, check it out for scratches and dents if you don't want to get screwed later. 5. The car hadn't been serviced for thousands of miles when I picked it up (the dash helpfully tells you when the next service is due). A week later, Avis finally noticed and told me that I needed to get an oil change for the car. I had to get the oil changed on my rental car. Wat. 5. b. The person who told us to get the oil change told us it would be really easy if we just went to jiffy lube. That was the opposite of true. Turns out they have no idea what to do if you don't have a "fleet card" with precise instructions, and when they look up Avis they get a list of every Avis in the country and have no idea who to bill. We called up Avis so they could talk to jiffy lube and it literally took an hour for them to figure out jiffy lube's computer system. In retrospect, maybe we could have called corp headquarters and tried to reach whoever it is that prints out fleet cards, but we figured the person that told us that it would be really easy knew how they needed to be billed. Nope.
