Originally the Loew's Penn Theater - the largest movie theater between New York and Chicago - this magnificent venue was restored and renovated in the late '60s en route to becoming Heinz Hall, home of the Pittsburgh Symphony.
The scale of the venue is massive, as it seats over 2,500 people. Despite the fact that it's a former movie theater, the acoustics are superb almost everywhere, unless you're sitting in the boxes of the Grand Tier where, in some places, sound becomes a bit muffled. Nevertheless, this is a magnificent venue both inside and out, and is worth visiting to see one of the world's great symphonies.
