| - I went there with a group of friends that went VIP - as friends of one of the promoters there. We were all dressed well, spending money, dancing, drinking - what you would normally do in a bar. A fight breaks out in the VIP area between some black guys and asian guys that none of us knew - I can't tell you what it was about, but people got smashed over the head with bottles. That section of VIP cleared real quick, security came abruptly, and the party resumed without a beat. Well-managed right? No. About half an hour later, a team of roughly 8 bouncers came down, and personally escorted every single asian person in VIP out of Butter's backdoor into the waiting hands of the police, where we were all frisked and told never to come back. The only details that were given to us were that there was gang-related violence and until further notice, we weren't allowed back to Butter. I understand wanting to prevent gang violence, but a) we didn't know the perpetrators, b) we came as guests of the promoters, and c) only asians were kicked out. I'm going to take a very elementary leap of faith and say that racial stereotyping probably played a small hand in this, since there was loads of black people in VIP as well, and not a single one got asked to stand up, much less leave and get frisked. Not to mention the fact that if Butter suspected we had gang ties, they weren't showing much faith in their promoting team. I have nothing against anyone of any race btw, I'm just stating the facts of the evening. It's unfortunate, since the club is very tastefully appointed, and the drinks are reasonable. The DJ is quite good as well.
