  • Disappointing experience with horrifying consequences. Took my dog in for an eye infection that persisted after I took her to my regular vet. She said it was severe enough to take her to a specialist and suggested Eye Care for Animals--that have offices all around the valley. The Avondale vet said that my dog would not lose her sight and to bring her back in two weeks. I was surprised at how blasé they were about it as it looked pretty bad. But I trusted their "expertise." Long story short, after I brought her back she was completely blind and the vet suggested I have her eye removed. WHAT?! They never even warned me with anything such as "If you notice her eye getting cloudy, bring her in" or "test her eyesight ever day" nothing. Her eye got even worse subsequently and I called their "24 Hour Emergency On-Call Vet" phone number which is a complete misnomer. Got an answering machine and left a message. Finally a Vet-Tech called me back and suggested I take her to the emergency room. Gee, thanks for the info. To add insult to injury, Eye Care For Animals said my normal vet could probably remove her eye for "a lot less money." Very patronizing. I took my dog to their "specialists" and paid their exorbitant fees to get the best care possible for my dog--not to save money. Not sure if they were judging me by my clothes or race or what. Over $2,000 later my dog had her eye removed. To be fair, the east valley vet seemed better, but my dog was blind by the time I saw her. When taking your animal anywhere, trust your gut and your instincts. I should have known that 2 weeks was too long a time for the severity of her infection. Can't recommend them after this experience.
