| - I am very, very picky about baked goods...and even pickier about cakes. This place hits a home run with me!
First, the hours are great. Any cupcake place that's open until midnight on Saturday nights gets an A. Okay, and the ambiance was nice, too. Bright and clean, not claustrophobic and I love the pink and white theme. The furniture is adorable, too. (We came in at 11:30pm.)
This place also sells coffee and other tasty drinks, including soda.
The customer service was stellar; the girl told us all the upcoming flavors and was really patient with us as we took forever to decide which colossal cupcake to choose. I chose one called "hot cocoa" and my friend chose the "apple cider". The cashier/server was knowledgeable and friendly, but not pushy.
First, these cupcakes are huge! It's called "Colossal Cupcakes," so don't complain about how big they are. They do sell smaller to-go packs of their popular flavors, so splurge on one of those. Second, the cupcakes are FRESH and not dry. This is amazing for an end-of-the-night trip. Third, they have a ton of flavor and aren't just "sweet". What I mean is: if your cupcake has different "parts" (deep chocolate cake with milk chocolate buttercream on top and a tiny swirl of white icing, for example) each part tastes different. It's not just a colorful, elaborately decorated blob of sugar. My hot cocoa cupcake was cute: chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream, a tiny striped paper straw and white buttercream and sprinkles, it looked like a mug of cocoa! And we were surprised: it had a little well of chocolate syrup in it! Super cool! The cake was flavorful, the chocolate syrup was rich, the chocolate buttercream actually tasted like chocolate, and the white swirl of buttercream on top was a light vanilla. The icing they use here is heavy, dense and soft. Not gritty, not "crunchy", not "airy" or so whipped full of air it's fluffy. Leave that to the grocery store cakes. This is how to do frosting RIGHT! My friend loved her apple cider cupcake, too; she practically swooned.
I'm so glad we went here after dinner at Pickwick and Frolic. It ended the evening on the sweetest of notes.
