| - I'm changing my review of Energie Cardio after having held a membership here for almost a year. I'm better qualified to speak about the quality of the experience now, I think, than I was when I first signed up.
At FIRST, I really enjoyed the gym, because:
1. The people who work there are friendly, open and welcoming, especially the director - she's very nice, always smiling and laughing.
2. Extremely affordable! I got the couples membership, which is only $44 a month each.
SIDE NOTE to this: I also signed up for their version of hot yoga (which isn't really genuine hot yoga) for a promo deal of $10/month. I have to say, in the end, you get what you pay for. More on that in a minute.
3. Plenty of options for weight training, resistance training and cardio.
NOW, to update with the reasons why I've downgraded my rating for this place:
1. I was practically kicked out of a hot yoga class because the instructor informed me that I was wearing inappropriate attire. So, what was I wearing? A hot yoga top from Lululemon, the kind that shows your belly. According to their policies, showing the skin of my stomach was inappropriate. EXCUSE ME? I complained to the Energie Cardio headquarters and threatened to cancel my membership, after which I was informed that they'd changed their policy and I was now allowed to wear my Lululemon hot yoga top to hot yoga, but could not be seen wearing it in the main part of the gym.
I don't go to hot yoga or the gym to be body-shamed. I go to hot yoga to feel good about my body. Not only was it body shaming, but I was humiliated in front of the rest of the class when the instructor basically told me I had to leave the class, in the middle of the class, to put a t-shirt on over my hot yoga top and cover myself. NOT COOL. I didn't leave the class, but I never went back to another class after that, either. Needless to say, I won't be renewing my gym membership this year.
2. Around the gym are a number of offensive chemical air fresheners, the kind that automatically spritz a noxious amount of scent fumes into the air at regular intervals. I loathe these things, particularly in an environment where I'm working out and breathing heavy and need a lot of oxygen. The last thing I want to do is choke on an air freshener or three. My partner spoke to the director about these being overwhelming in the gym, especially when placed RIGHT NEXT to some of the machines, but it made no difference.
It's too bad about these extremely negative aspects, because otherwise, it would have been something that I continued to enjoy. I won't go back.
