  • This is by far one of the best places in the city to kill a morning when you're grocery shopping. This has been a mainstay in Toronto and this place is hardly ever not packed. During the week, the lunch rush hits and all of the butchers and sandwich places turn out some of the best and freshest sandwiches that can be found pretty much anywhere. This is a place you'd expect Rachel Ray to show up in, cameras in tow, telling all in TelevisionLand that this is a great place to eat for five bucks. Peameal bacon and Churrasco chicken abound. Downstairs you'll also find one of the longest queues for one of the better veal, chicken, or eggplant parmesan sandwiches you'll find. The produce stalls have fresh in-season vegetables as well as usual staples that will help you make a fantastically fresh meal. There are also little specialty shops that sell kitchenware, specialty mustards, and vast arrays of cheeses, as well as fresh homemade pasta. But the topper on all of this is the meat and seafood vendors that are found. During barbecue season, this place should be the first port of call. Meats, fish, seafood and poultry are all on offer, fresh, and ready for grilling. Go there near the end of day on Saturday, close to 5:00pm. Because the market is closed Sunday and Monday, the butchers will put on last minute sales to get rid of the meat fast. Bargain day at its best. Individual stall reviews to follow to help you get a chance to figure out who tops who under the St. Lawrence Market roof.
