Under serviced. Underwhelming and under cleaned.
I've only been living here for 2 years (YYC) and do a lot of travelling to and fro from this airport. Coming from Vancouver - which has an exquisite airport - it's hard for me to appreciate much about the Calgary "International" Airport.
Parking - crowded, expensive and FILTHY in the winter.
Terminal restaurants - non-existent. Tim Hortons, Jugo Juice and Starbucks are NOT places to have a meal. They need to spit-shine the amenities here, pronto.
Gates: There's 1. For EVERYTHING. WTF????? There is technically no differentiation between Domestic and International. Lame.
Cowboy hat people: Didn't know how to tell my friend where Bragg Creek was, didn't know where it was. Insult to injury? Neither did the girl at the INFORMATION booth. Yikes.
Transit: What? What transit? We only drive big trucks here and don't even carpool. Nevermind trying to take public transit to an airport. Fools.
Decor: Holy jesus. What the EFF is up with the displays on top of the luggage carousels? A sensory deprived infant could build something with a bit more class/style/flair. Just terrible. Looks like they rob Sally Ann/Value Village for all of the supplies for these things. TAKE THEM DOWN.
Security: At least they give you an option to NOT have your body and brain irradiated with the scanning machine. You can generally get lighters, matches, tweezers and other sharp objects through. They like to "randomly" swab bags at the gate too, which means they just pick every 3rd person...which usually tends to be me. Joy & rapture.
Misc: I see that they have plans in the works to upgrade the services to the airport.
Thanks be to Jeebus.
Most Westjet flights out of this place are late leaving or late arriving...it's like Westjet + Calgary = guaranteed WORST service ever.
