| - first time colouring my hair professionally as i wanted to change things up (last time i coloured my hair was ~10 years ago from the box..!). was recommended to Nino D'Arena by my boyfriend's sister, who's been coming here to see Rhoda for about 10 years.
booked an appointment for 10.30am. got there at 10.25am, Rhoda took me in at 10.30am. 5 stars for punctuality.
got partial highlights done. told her what i wanted (thin reddish-brown highlights, super subtle). we discussed prices so there wouldn't be any surprises (she was very understanding of that, and i'm very sensitive about money so...). i showed her some pictures on my phone of what i wanted, and then she gave me a book to decide what colour i wanted. i have very dark brown/black hair so she informed me that the colours wouldn't turn out as bright on my hair - good to know. she also let me take my time deciding (i'm super indecisive), so it was nice to not feel rushed.
it turned out very nicely. dark red, very subtle (my mom still hasn't noticed it since she hasn't seen it in the light).
reasons for the 3 star rating:
-she pulled at my hair a lot. not sure if that's common with colouring, but it hurt ):
-she kept asking if i wanted her to blowdry my hair at the end. when we discussed prices, i specifically said i didn't want it as i can't justify paying $40 extra for something i can do myself for free. i mean if it was winter time and my hair would freeze over the moment i stepped outside, then yes i might consider it.
-she coloured it a bit more than i would have liked (ie i wanted the highlights more spaced out), but as it's pretty subtle and dark i don't mind. it's supposed to get lighter as i wash it so we'll see how i like it in a couple of months..!
recommendations:
if you don't mind some hair pulling, then i'd recommend Rhoda! just make sure you have a good sense of what you want done, maybe save some pictures on your phone.
definitely discuss prices beforehand.
give yourself about 2 hours. my appointment was done in a bit over 1.5 hours?
