  • I'm always looking for family weekend activities because the kids get a little stir crazy in the house. I was super excited when I remembered this park and saw all of the activities I could show the kids. To be honest I'm torn between 3 stars and 4 but feeling on the nicer side this morning...here's why. $6 entry fee but it's a state park so bonus for us FREE for military. The park is huge but was very busy (as expected for a Saturday). We picked up some sandwiches and fishing gear beforehand and head to the park with our whole family (two goldens included). The picnic areas are covered with at least 4 tables per area the only downside is there's duck poop everywhere! Tables are clean. But the kids kept walking in the poop and dogs kept laying in it (yuck). Oddly enough, there was no smell and we could enjoy our lunch in peace. After lunch we wondered out around the lake (pond? I don't know I'm from Hawaii - we know the ocean) and found a shady spot to fish. There was a TON of people fishing, complete with tents, bbq gear, etc. It's the perfect family nature spot. We're first time fishers and it was more for the kids. Brought our little Car's fishing set, some night crawlers and set up. The kids loved it. The dogs as well. It was definitely warm out which was another downside on our end but this place would be beautiful to spend a fall weekend. After our fishing adventures, we wandered around some more and let the kids get up close and personal with the peacocks. We had intentions of looking into the horseback riding but everyone was exhausted. This is now permanently on our list of family activities. We'll be back when it's cooler and hopefully there will be less bird feces :(
