| - I hate to give a cute local little business anything less than 5 stars, but unfortunately, I didn't love my experience here.
I came here because I needed compression hose before a surgery I was going to have, and my doctor told me that I could only buy them at a pharmacy (which turned out to be untrue). The pharmacy tech at Towne Drug who helped me out was perfectly nice and helpful. I picked up my order a few days later and when I went to pay, I was floored at the price. They were almost 3x what I was expecting (and what my doc told me they should cost). I questioned the price, and the pharmacist (possibly the owner?) basically said, "you can look up this brand and price compare, but this is what they cost." He was very nice about it, but it didn't take the sting away from the sky high price. He offered a 10% discount if I bought two pairs (which was a nice gesture), but they were so expensive that I only walked away with one pair when I had initially ordered two. Curious about the cost, I later looked online and found the EXACT same product and brand for $75 cheaper (if only I knew beforehand that I could get them online!) Now, I understand that Towne Drug is a small pharmacy, so I expect a bit of markup, but wow...I paid almost 3x what I would have if I had bought them online! And to make matters worse, they ordered me the wrong size. When I later went to wear them post-surgery, they weren't as tight as they should have been...I looked at the tag and realized it was a size above what I should have gotten (but of course by that point it was too late to do anything about it). Sigh.
Oh, and one other thing that left me with a less-than-stellar feeling about this place. When I had initially placed my order at the pharmacy on that first day, I grabbed some hand soap to buy on the way out (the front end of their store sells a small variety of food and other goods like most pharmacies). The woman at the register was eating her lunch, saw me, and ignored me for a good two to three minutes. When she finally came over to ring me up, I asked if there was a credit card minimum. She looked at me with disdain and said (rather snottily), "No, but I'd like you to use debit if you're only going to be spending $1.79 here." Ummm....you'd like me to use debit? So wait. That sounds like a credit card limit to me. Also, I wasn't "only spending" $1.79 at their business, but in fact had just placed a pharmacy order (ironically I didn't even know at that point *just* how much I would be spending at the pharmacy, haha). Anyway, I didn't have a debit card with me, so I had scrape together some change to pay...even though they "don't have a credit card limit." The woman was quite unpleasant and my interaction with her left a bad taste in my mouth.
This seems to be a much-loved pharmacy among local residents, but between the super high prices and the poor front-end customer service, I just wasn't impressed. I don't think I'll be back.
