| - I had read about adding AAA members to the contract as additional drivers at no cost. My 2 AAA members were at the Hertz desk with me, but the guy insisted that ONLY, spouses, domestic partners, and business partners were added at no charge, otherwise it would cost $13.50/day per person to add them.... He spun the computer screen around to me and pointed out the paragraph about the free additions, but knew nothing about the AAA members. I did't add the drivers, but decided to call the customer service # on the contract. It was Sat night (picked the car up at 7PM. ). By the time I called, the office was closed and no other Hertz rental place in Charlotte was open, then or until noon on Sunday....... So I drove our 400 mile trip myself.
During The last 100 miles or so of our trip to Maryland, we started hearing a very concerning sound coming from the right front of the car and the steering wheel "pulled" with each sound. We arrived at our destination and immediately tried to call the 800#...closed till Monday AM. Next morning I reached the customer service dept and told them about my airport experience and about the noise the car was making. She said she documented my complaint about the airport and directed me to another dept to report the car. After describing the car problem, I was put on hold for several minutes. When he returned, he said that he had checked all Hertz facilities within a close proximity of where we were and the closest place that had a car was 60 miles away! The other option we were given was to take it into a nearby Firestone garage and have them look at it. He gave me the Firestone number to call. I made and appointment for the next day.
When I talked to the service tech at Firestone, he asked me for the PO from Hertz. I had no idea what he was talking about...That had never been mentioned by the Hertz rep, only that Firestone would bill Hertz. He said that they weren't able to touch the car unless they had a PO. Then he asked me the make, model and mileage of the car....2016 Nissan Sentra with 1300 miles... He sort of "flipped out" and said the couldn't touch the car because it's under warranty! He called the Hagerstown Hertz office and told him our story...(we'd already checked there twice for a car.) We drove over to Hertz to at least add a driver to the contract. The Hertz guy called around the area again and....FOUND A CAR FOR US!!! Only trouble....it was 40 miles north of us and wouldn't be available till the next day...the day we were leaving to go back to Charlotte ( which was SOUTH).
Next day, we drove north in our questionable car to trade it out.....that added two hours to our already 400 mile drive ahead of us....but at least I did have another driver and a car I felt safe in!
In a nutshell......I encountered four Hertz employees during this three day ordeal! Two of the four didn't know they're job and gave us totally wrong information!...the rude idiot at the Charlotte airport, and the man I spoke to at the 800 customer service number.
HERTZ......GET IT TOGETHER! I'd really appreciate a response from Hertz this time. When I reported the airport incident, the woman said I would be contacted w/I 24 hours by phone.......NOPE....DIDN'T HAPPEN!
