| - This place is like a cheap whore with a heart of gold: shabby, well-worn, but run with love and with great prices. Lots of people pay a visit too.
I only came because Poke Express, my go-to poke spot down the street is now closed on Wednesdays. I had been meaning to try the loco moco at this spot but I had a poke craving so I decided to go with it and order here.
Though I love my raw fish spicy with light dressing (maybe kimchi and sesame oil), when I asked about their spicy poke bowl I was told it was sriracha mayo and masago mixed together, which is on the heavy side and very American to my taste. I went with it, ordered a side of shoyu, and I was pleasantly surprised at the taste when I got to try it.
Though the dressing is a LOT and heavy, it went well. Wasn't spicy whatsoever so I sprinkled some of my own spicy chili flakes and furikake on it. I went with the salad, which was a lot and simple, but ate it with rice as well. The fish was smothered in sauce so I couldn't comment on how fresh it looked, but it was cut into perfect sized cubes and didn't taste old or weirdly soft, so there's that. I wish it came with more stuff in it, like green onions, or furikake, or something, but I get it, and for the price it was well-worth it.
Overall, I'd come back to try the loco moco, and maybe pick this if I had a craving for heavy poke.
