  • Well, I was ready for anything but wanted to see for myself whether the famed Gordon Ramsay could produce Fish & Chips that would justify a high price for them. I received that and more! "Pricey" is an appropriate term here. After three appetizers, an order of Onion Soup, and two orders of Fish & Chips, an Iced Tea, tax, and tip, I walked out with my wallet $165 lighter. But it was $165 well spent. I rate restaurants mainly on food taste and according to their type--not on how costly they might be. And for a pub & grill, Gordon Ramsey delivered great quality and taste on everything I sampled. Plus, the atmosphere was pub-like and comfortable sitting in a sunken booth with regal sword-like silverware in a well-decorated dining room. Service, too, was good and very accommodating of special requests for a very busy restaurant. We began with a truly Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail with a Citrus Crunch, Horseradish, and tantalizing reddish Cocktail sauce. The shrimp was meaty, perfectly cooked, and delicious. Deviled Eggs served with bits of chives, tomato, bacon, and tiny Red Onion and White Onion squares contained beautifully whipped up yolks, The individual egg halves taken as a whole yielded a pleasant crunchy flavor that offered a fine prelude to what was to come. And Lobster Mac 'N' Cheese, with Gruyere, English Cheddar, and Parmesan, at $25 a pop delivered a fine shareable and soothing side for me and Diane even though the dish was presented as an appetizer. The three conjoined cheeses melted harmoniously over the cooked macaroni, and flowed over good-sized chunks of tasty lobster meat. Since it was on the menu I had to also try the Sweet English Ale Onion Soup, which was quite cheesy, mellow, and without any noticeable hint of alcohol. It will join my list of memorable French Onion Soups even though it was technically British rather than French. My two long lengths of blonde battered cod with Mushy Peas, lemon juice, malt vinegar, and a superior homemade Tartar Sauce were served hot and were simply excellent, cooked just right with steaming and flaky flesh inside the lightly golden batter. And the thick log-like "chips" were quite tasty as well. Although I didn't try it, a friend dining with us pronounced the golden-crusted Chicken, Kale & Bacon Pot Pie with Marjoram & Creme Fraiche, & Vegetables the best pot pie she had ever tasted. That is now on my "to try" list! So a return visit will definitely be made once my wallet has been replenished.
