| - As a follow-up, I wanted to reveal that this Firestone was completely wrong with all of their diagnostic work on my Honda. I've driven in the last 5 months since I was there, through 115 degree heat with A/C on all the time. Certainly if my water pump was bad that would have pushed it over the edge. They told me with no hesitation at the time that the "pump is going, we're surprised your car is still running and made it here, it's starting to leak". They showed me a blue streak on the side of the pump that was just grease or a little antifreeze that leaked and dried on the side of it. It still looks exactly the same. Not only did it make it through the summer just fine, the pump isn't leaking at all and the car runs great. As for the belts, which they assessed with confidence to have "dry rot" and "starting to break and should be replaced", those are fine as well, which I knew and told Firestone at the time but has been confirmed by other auto shops with less interest in taking money out of my wallet that they're not entitled to.
As for the LED markers they wanted to replace with regular bulbs and charge me $30 to boot, which is what the LED lights cost in the first place, I got under my car and had the bulbs reinstalled in 10 minutes and they've been fine since. The whole point in spending the money on them in the first place was so I'd never have to replace them. Why would I spend more to substitute an inferior part that I'd have to keep replacing? I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt, but they deserve this review and I hope they lose business over it. If their "trained" mechanics are so incompetent as to not even be able to diagnose new belts on a car they probably shouldn't be open for business. But I suspect since they tried to bully me into one of the most expensive and hardest to prove that it isn't needed jobs, I think they're shady and they suck and should be called out. If I hadn't known my car as well as I do and had all the history documented, I probably would've shelled out the $1000 or so for unnecessary work.
I'm actually done with Firestone for good as a result of this incident, nothing chaps my ass more that sketchy shops that try to rip off the little guy. Goodyear on Sahara does good oil changes for a good price and Discount Tire on Flamingo does all my tire work in a friendly, professional manner. Shops like this Firestone are exactly why chain auto stores appear on documentaries and shows like 60 Minutes or 20/20 for fraudulent business practices, exactly for this reason. Go anywhere but here or change your oil yourself, it can't get any worse.
