  • Beard Papa's (and necessary imitators) can be found all over East Asia and is part of any staple snacking diet. The chain seems to have landed in the GTA, taking up a small booth at Pacific Place (second floor of the food court). Beard Papa's serves up a mild cream filled puff pastry, known as a choux pastry in some corners of the world. Basically take a light and crispy shell and fill it with your choice of cool, semi sweet cream. Beard Papa's offers various choices like vanilla, chocolate, green tea, and more. Everything is pretty light on sweetness, mostly relying on texture. It works well into the classic Asian aesthetic that tends to avoid overly sweet treats. The suckers tend to explode in your hands as you eat them (I guess I could have turned this review into a semi erotic review full of double entendres but I'd only give Neal fuel) so you have to be a bit careful. Price wise, one choux pastry runs about $2.35 with tax. In Pacific Mall where you can pig out for $5 and change, it's a bit pricey. Heck, two boston creams at Tim Hortons are cheaper. All 'n' all, it brings back memories of my time "over there" and some people might enjoy a pastry that doesn't make your teeth hurt.
