  • I really don't understand the negative posters here. I'm new to town and am looking for a gym in Pittsburgh. I like LA Fitness because they have a number of locations around the area (I live across the street from Gold's but it's the only one in town). I visited Robinson Township and Bakery Square and liked them both. i was a little worried about Bakery Square based on what I read, but my workout this afternoon (granted, a Sunday) was everything I expected. The Men's locker room was clean (well, clean enough) and the weights, machines and staff were fine. Sunday afternoon workout folks tend to have their own routines, so I knew to watch myself and stay out of the way (I was a little dismayed at the lack of available treadmills, but that's the case almost everywhere). I suspect Bakery Sq will be my "weekend gym" while Rob Twnshp will be the weekday. I think things like "Cardio Theatre" are a waste of space, but others seem to worship them (even Gold's has one...no other gym I've ever worked out in did). Also, if the members aren't going to pick up after themselves -- leaving it for "staff" to do -- well, that's just elitist. Throw your stuff in the trashcan, please. Re-rack your weights. As members, we all have a role to play. What I seem to see here are folks who signed up for one thing (Urban Active) and wound up in another (LA Fitness) which has a much larger, national footprint, practices, systems, etc. I get that. There's bound to be another "local only" gym that meets those needs (Rivers Club, maybe). My visit was fine. I'll probably buy a super duper membership that lets me work out at any LA Fitness anywhere.
