| - We've been at 1560 Bathurst St since September and these are our impressions so far.
The buildings themselves are quite old, but the layouts of the units are quite nice. Rooms are divided up along a long hallway, which I much prefer for many standard apartments that seem to slam the kitchen, dining area and living room together. There's plenty of storage in the way of walkin closets in the living room and bedroom, as well as an open closet for jackets at the end of the hallway.
On the negative side for the building is the obvious one you'll first notice; There is no elevator. For those on the 3rd, or 4th (like us) this might be the make, or break decision for you. It makes moving large furniture an adventure for sure. The next then you'll notice is the walls are not as thick as one would hope. You'll likely hear your neighbors pretty well if they crank up the television, or decide it'd be a good day for music & singing.
On-site management is nice enough and they have been quick to response to the few request we've made. One note is our heating for the building did not come on for several weeks after it was already hitting single digits outside. The control you have over these old radiators (when hot water is being pumped in) if basically off and on. When they are on, they do blast tons of heat and will keep you plenty warm.
Laundry room is shared between two buildings and there are only three machines. That said, I have rarely had to wait to use a machine. And the machines seem to be newer models and in great condition. The dryer specifically can handle a massive load of laundry and still do the job.
The area is really the draw to these buildings. You're about three minutes away from the back entrance of St Clair West Station and about five minutes from the St Clair Streetcar, with the Bathurst 7 at your doorstep. Down on St Clair Ave, there's plenty of shops to walk to. Loblaws, LCBO, numerous fast food joints, cafes, mom 'n pop shops', fruit stands, there's plenty to pick from.
These buildings are also really close to Cedarvale Park and Sir Winston Churchill Park, both which feature off leash (fenced in, no less) areas for dogs, but they also just make nice walks in general.
Really the only downside to the area is you have to walk out on to incredibly busy Bathurst St. It's more f a pain with a dog, who's more concerned about getting to the nearest patch of grass, than it would be for most people.
Overall we're pleased with our experience so far. No bugs, or anything that the previous reviewer mentioned. Rent is cheap for the area, especially in a building with no bed bug reports, and being on a month to month lease straight away is a great benefit. If you're looking to rent in the area, you could do worse than these four buildings.
